Qld; Beattie sets stage for possible early state election
There could be an early election in Queensland, with Premier PETER BEATTIE saying he's
morally obliged to call such a poll if investigations find evidence of corruption amongst
Labor MPs.
Mr BEATTIE says he is not in favour of an early election, but will co-operate with
any inquiry into allegations of vote rigging by the ALP in Townsville.
Mr BEATTIE'S comments follow the jailing two weeks ago of former ALP state candidate
KAREN EHRMANN, after she was found guilty of forgery linked to branch stacking in Townsville.
In an affidavit tendered to the Townsville District Court on August 11, EHRMANN claimed
to be a player in illegal vote-rigging activities in the ALP.
