Vic: Health Minister welcomes end to nurses dispute.
Victorian Health Minister JOHN THWAITES has welcomed the end of industrial action by
the state's nurses over staffing levels.
The nurses' union and hospital chiefs have reached an agreement in the Australian Industrial
Relations Commission to end the long-running dispute.
The union is claiming victory after members voted to accept a deal reinstating nurse-patient
ratios and abolishing a cap on the number of new nurses needed.
Mr THWAITES says the outcome is a positive one - and Victoria will be able to open
more beds to treat more patients with more nurses.
He says the new deal will employ 350 extra nurses and cost $203 million.
